About Us
The Picton Farmers' Market is a seasonal community hub advancing food sovereignty in Prince Edward County. We're a growing not-for-profit market with 50 vendors, where the board shares duties, meaning you won't be doing this alone.
The Role
Manage day-to-day market operations working collaboratively with an active board. This is mission-driven work for someone who values building local food systems.
Compensation: $26,000/year
~20 hours/week averaged annually (heavier admin work off-season, mostly market day operations during season)
Requires Sunday availability mid-May through late October
Work remotely for administrative tasks with your own scheduling
Core Responsibilities
Market Days (Sundays, mid-May to late October): Set up infrastructure, assign vendor spaces, staff info booth, coordinate volunteers, handle on-site issues, close down site.
Weekly Operations: Process vendor applications, maintain records and permits, manage bookkeeping, handle social media and inquiries, recruit vendors.
Seasonal Planning: Organize vendor meetings, plan market layout, work with board on budget/grants, plan monthly events, assist with marketing spends.
What We're Looking For
We need someone who genuinely enjoys working with people - farmers, customers, volunteers, and board members all bring different perspectives and energy. You're comfortable staying organized across multiple projects while remaining flexible when plans shift.
You communicate well and care about resolving conflicts fairly. Basic bookkeeping and social media skills are needed, but we're happy to support skill development in these areas for the right person. Event coordination experience is an asset but not required.
Most importantly, you care about local food systems and building community connections. The technical skills matter, but the passion for what we're doing together matters more.
Why This Role Works
You'll have real autonomy working with an engaged board on something that genuinely matters - building food sovereignty in Prince Edward County. Most of your work happens remotely on your own schedule, with Sundays on-site during market season.
As the market grows, compensation grows with it - we're on an upward trajectory and you'll be part of shaping that. The pay reflects nonprofit reality rather than corporate rates, but if you're looking for meaningful work where you can see direct community impact, flexible scheduling, and the chance to help build something from the ground up - let's talk.
